Our project has been selected for Ocean Hackathon 2026, organised by TVT Innovation in Toulon on October 16, 17 and 18, in partnership with Interreg Marittimo IT-FR Maritime, CIRCLE, the CCI Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, the Métropole Toulon Provence Méditerranée and ISEN Méditerranée.
Ocean Hackathon brings together 12 cities around the world, hundreds of teams, 48 non-stop hours, and an international final in Brest in December. This year marks the event's 10th edition.
Our challenge is called SAR DRIFT. It started as a maritime drift simulation tool based on the Monte Carlo method, designed to help SAR coordinators estimate the probable position of a person lost at sea by cross-referencing real-time wind and ocean current data.
But drift isn't only about search and rescue at sea. During this hackathon, we want to expand the tool toward other concrete use cases: modelling marine pollution slicks, tracking plastic waste trajectories, analysing impact zones around offshore wind farms, and assessing risks to maritime infrastructure.
One simulation engine. Multiple challenges. Open data. Zero heavy infrastructure.
